The Fiji Police Force has implemented restrictions on movement in the towns of Ba, Tavua, and Rakiraki due to increasing water levels. Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations Livai Driu emphasized that these actions are taken to ensure public safety and to safeguard infrastructure from potential damage and opportunism.

Currently, there are four active evacuation centers in the Western Division, providing shelter to 226 individuals, with more evacuees expected if the rainfall continues. The Ba to Rakiraki highway has been closed, making Tavua Town inaccessible at this time.

The police are actively evacuating residents from areas affected by flooding and are prepared to monitor the situation as it develops.

In light of these challenges, the community has shown resilience, coming together to support one another during this difficult time. The proactive measures taken by authorities reflect a commitment to safeguarding lives and property, showcasing the importance of preparedness in times of natural distress.
