Thirty-one students from Namosi Secondary School have achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the first graduates of the school’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) micro-qualification program. The graduation ceremony was led by the Minister for Education, Honourable Aseri Radrodro, who praised both the students for their commitment and the school for its innovative approach to practical skills development within Fiji’s highland communities.

The graduates completed accredited short courses focusing on essential skills such as Front Office Operations, Housekeeping, Joinery, Painting, Plumbing, Tile Laying, and Block Laying, all designed to align with industry demands. This program, recognized by the Higher Education Commission of Fiji (HECF), will provide them with qualifications acknowledged nationwide, fostering greater employment opportunities.

In his keynote address, Honourable Radrodro emphasized the vital role of TVET in Fiji’s educational reforms. He highlighted the Coalition Government’s commitment to investing in resources, scholarships, and practical training specifically targeted at rural and remote learners. “This milestone exemplifies education’s transformative power,” he remarked, encouraging the graduates to use their newly acquired skills to benefit their families and communities.

The support from the leadership, staff, parents, and the broader community played a pivotal role in the success of this program. This initiative underscores the growing recognition of vocational education as a valuable pathway to employment, similar to previous efforts in Fiji’s educational landscape, which aim to empower young individuals and contribute to economic growth.

The positive impact of such educational advancements not only prepares graduates for the workforce but also fosters hope and potential within their communities. Events like these highlight the significance of inclusive education in improving lives and empowering future generations in Fiji.
