A woman in her 60s from Buca Village has tragically become Fiji’s latest road fatality following a two-vehicle collision near Nasue Settlement in Vunilagi, Savusavu, on the morning of January 20, 2026.
The police report indicates that the woman was a passenger in a vehicle driven by a 43-year-old man when their vehicle veered into the opposite lane, resulting in a collision with an oncoming car operated by a 51-year-old driver.
Emergency services transported the victim, alongside two children aged six and 15, to Savusavu Hospital. While the medical staff confirmed the woman’s death, the two children are currently receiving treatment and remain hospitalized.
Authorities have stated that the driver of the vehicle will be questioned as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are underway.
This unfortunate incident marks the first road death recorded this year, contrasting with the zero fatalities reported during the same period last year, highlighting the ongoing concerns regarding road safety in the region.
