Fiji’s First Open Heart Surgery: A Lifeline for the Underprivileged

Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH), Fiji’s only locally-owned private hospital, is set to perform its inaugural open-heart surgery. This announcement was made by Parvish Kumar, the Director and CEO of PSH.

In a gesture of goodwill, Mr. Kumar extended his support to underprivileged individuals who may not afford the surgery, encouraging them to reach out via email at p.kumar@psh.com.fj. Patients wishing to qualify for either a completely free procedure or a significantly subsidized rate must meet certain criteria, including specific cardiac health requirements.

Kumar emphasized that prospective patients should have undergone an angiogram and completed all necessary medical tests prior to contacting him. He noted that while the angiogram can be done at any facility, it is essential for patients to send their reports for evaluation via email.

The hospital’s operating theatre is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and has received praise from visiting cardiologists from India for its world-class standards. The costs for open-heart procedures at PSH are expected to be competitive with rates found in India and other regions.

PSH’s Nadi branch is conveniently situated on the Queen’s Highway, opposite Nadi International Airport, while the Suva branch is located at 107 Foster Road, Walu Bay. Cardiac services will be available exclusively at the Nadi branch, whereas the Suva branch provides advanced procedures in neurosurgery, urology, obstetrics and gynecology, general surgery, and orthopedics.

PSH is committed to delivering top-quality medical care using the latest equipment to guarantee excellent surgical outcomes and quicker recovery times. Mr. Kumar reiterated their dedication to prioritizing patient health and swift treatment to facilitate recovery.
