Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH) is set to establish a DNA library aimed at preserving genetic samples for future needs. This initiative was announced by PSH’s director and CEO, Parvish Kumar, during the fifth MultiDisciplinary (Pacific) Conference held at the Crowne Plaza Fiji, Nadi Bay Resort & Spa.
Kumar explained that the plan involves obtaining parental consent to collect and store umbilical cord samples from newborns in a laboratory. He emphasized that these samples would be available for parents or others seeking their child’s DNA in the future, making such services accessible within Fiji.
Furthermore, Kumar mentioned that PSH’s open-heart surgical team is already in Fiji and has been conducting preliminary exercises to prepare the systems for upcoming surgical procedures. The planned dates for these open-heart surgeries are around August 2-13.
With these developments, Kumar highlighted that Pacific islanders would no longer need to seek medical attention abroad. He pointed out that in the event of future pandemics or border restrictions, patients would still have access to necessary medical services in Fiji.
Pacific Specialist Healthcare, located in Legalega across from Nadi International Airport, is recognized as the largest private hospital in the South Pacific.
