Twenty-two officers from the Fiji Police Force have completed their Pre-Deployment Training, culminating in a ceremony led by Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police (A/ACP) Operations, Kasiano Vusonilawe. These officers are heading to South Sudan to participate in a United Nations peacekeeping mission, where they will serve as both peacemakers and ambassadors of Fiji.
During the ceremony, A/ACP Vusonilawe emphasized the significance of their roles, stating, “You’re not only supporting peace and security abroad; you’re carrying the proud banner of the Fiji Police Force and the nation.” The training covered critical areas including core pre-deployment materials, refresher courses in UN standards, and job-specific training on community policing and operational safety.
The selected officers had already met international standards through the Fiji SAAT 2022 assessment, demonstrating their readiness for UN service. A/ACP Vusonilawe encouraged the officers to utilize the insights gained from their deployment to strengthen local policing practices when they return.
This current deployment forms part of Fiji’s commitment to international peacekeeping efforts, which aligns with the Elsie Initiative, promoting greater participation of women in uniformed roles within peace operations. The ongoing training and emphasis on female representation, demonstrated in previous missions highlighted in similar articles, illustrate a positive move towards inclusivity and empowerment within the Fiji Police Force.
Overall, this deployment not only continues Fiji’s dedicated involvement in global peacekeeping but also inspires a hopeful perspective for collaborative international efforts in securing peace and stability.
