Employees from the FNPF-owned IHG hotels and resorts achieved remarkable success at the annual HOTEC 2024 competition held in Nadi, securing top positions in barista, bartender, and chef contests.
Hansini Gounder, representing the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, took home first place in the barista competition, showcasing her exceptional coffee-making skills. This marks her third win in this category, having previously claimed victory in 2017 and 2018.
In the bartender category, Theodore Reyes, also from InterContinental, emerged victorious with innovative cocktails crafted from local ingredients, highlighting the unique flavors of Fiji. Meanwhile, Anesh Anushal Goundar, another team member from InterContinental, earned a commendable runner-up spot in the chef competition, impressing judges with dishes inspired by Fijian cuisine. They were accompanied by their colleagues—Brandon Solvalu from GPH and Mereoni Ligadua and Malakai Kauyaca from Holiday Inn—who also represented their establishments at the event.
Lachlan Walker, Portfolio General Manager of IHG Hotels & Resorts for FNPF Owned Hotels, praised the achievements of the team, emphasizing that their success reflects IHG’s commitment to nurturing local talent and advancing the Fijian hospitality industry. He stated, “We are passionate about attracting and developing Fijian talent and helping them achieve their career dreams,” while also expressing congratulations to the winners.
Walker further noted that IHG remains dedicated to supporting local businesses and adopting sustainable practices throughout its operations. The HOTEC event served as an excellent platform for hospitality professionals to present their skills and share ideas aiming at enhancing quality, sustainability, and innovation within the industry.
This achievement not only showcases the skills and creativity of Fijian hospitality professionals but also highlights the growing focus on local talent and sustainability within the tourism sector. It is a positive reminder that the industry is thriving and evolving, adapting to modern standards while remaining rooted in the rich cultural heritage of Fiji.
