Fiji’s Financial Revolution: A Prestigious Award Win!

Fiji’s central bank has been honored with The Nestor Espenilla Jr Financial Inclusion Innovation Award during the 2024 Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI) Awards ceremony. This prestigious award, presented annually at the AFI Global Policy Forum, recognizes outstanding initiatives by regulatory bodies that significantly promote financial inclusion.

Ariff Ali, the governor of the Reserve Bank of Fiji (RBF), stated that the award symbolizes excellence and acknowledges their unwavering dedication to enhancing access to financial services for all citizens. At a celebratory event held at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva, Mr. Ali expressed pride in the progress made in advancing financial inclusion, highlighting the resilience and collaborative spirit of the nation.

He emphasized that the award is a testament to the shared vision and commitment of various stakeholders, including development partners, financial institutions, government agencies, the private sector, and communities, in creating a more inclusive financial landscape for Fiji.

Dr. Eliki Boletawa, the AFI Director of Policy Programs and Implementation, commended RBF for its exemplary efforts in promoting financial inclusion through innovative solutions, particularly within the digital and financial technology realms. He noted that these initiatives have not only transformed Fiji’s financial sector but also serve as a model for other countries aiming to improve financial access.

Dr. Boletawa highlighted that the award acknowledges RBF’s persistent efforts to close the financial inclusion gap, particularly for underserved populations such as women, youth, and rural communities.
