Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, has stated that all budget submissions from various ministries will undergo thorough reviews. This announcement was made as his Ministry begins receiving requests from several sectors, some of which are seeking increased funding.

Prasad mentions that extensive preparation is underway for the upcoming budget, with consultations planned for various stakeholders and community groups. He highlighted the achievements from the past two budgets, citing improvements in income levels, such as raising the minimum wage and increasing civil service salaries, as well as support for agriculture and social welfare programs.

In his previous reports, Prasad has detailed significant budget implications, including a focus on reducing national debt and addressing health and education sector challenges. He emphasized that the intentions behind the budgets are rooted in genuine need rather than political motivations, aiming to combat socio-economic issues like poverty and inequality.

With the budget address expected on June 27, Prasad calls on stakeholders to actively engage in the submission process, reinforcing that while progress has been made, there remains much work ahead to improve the well-being of the populace.

As Fiji prepares for its next fiscal year, the government’s proactive approach towards financial management and stakeholder engagement highlights a commitment to achieving sustainable economic growth while supporting its communities.
