Fiji’s Finance Minister Faces Corruption Charges: What’s Next?

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, has stated that his legal team has formally rejected the allegations made against him by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC). In a statement to FijiLive, Professor Prasad mentioned that his lawyers are managing the situation and are currently in communication with FICAC. He declined to provide any further remarks on the matter. This statement comes in light of FICAC’s indication that they plan to file charges against him on Thursday. FICAC has also informed several key figures, including President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, Acting Chief Justice Salesi Temo, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, Attorney General Graham Leung, and Minister for Justice Siromi Turaga, about their intentions to charge Professor Prasad.
