The growth of the Audio-Visual and Film industry has become a key focus in Fiji’s new National Development Plan. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Hon. Professor Biman Prasad, made this statement during the premiere launch of the locally produced film “Langha Phobia,” which addresses the theme of “Trust and respect in a marriage,” held at Life Cinema in Nakasi.
Professor Prasad emphasized the significant potential for growth within Fiji’s Audio-Visual and Film industry, noting its increasing importance. He remarked that Fiji is emerging as a favored destination for film production, thanks to its renowned islands, marine life, culture, and heritage.
He highlighted that one of the Coalition Government’s main objectives is to develop local talent through education and training. “The Government has been significantly supporting our local universities to foster local talent, arts, and skills development through various programs and courses,” he said.
Describing the new National Development Plan as “The People’s Plan,” he noted that it reflects the aspirations and voices of the community seeking to enhance their socio-economic well-being.
Professor Prasad underscored the importance of creating a supportive environment for local filmmakers to enhance their skills, which would bolster the industry’s growth. He stated, “Films communicate a universal language that connects individuals across various cultures, nationalities, ages, and socio-economic backgrounds.”
He also acknowledged the contributions of the Director, Producer, and the entire cast and crew, praising their hard work and commitment to bringing the vision to fruition. Professor Prasad pointed out that every film by Mr. Vimal Reddy carries an authentic Fijian essence, featuring strong social messages that resonate with local audiences and challenge societal barriers.
