Fiji’s audio-visual and film sector is demonstrating significant growth potential and is increasingly recognized as an essential industry.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad made this observation during the premiere of the locally filmed and produced movie “Langha Phobia,” which explores the themes of trust and respect in marriage. The event took place at Life Cinema in Nakasi on Friday.
Professor Prasad noted that Fiji is emerging as a favored filming destination globally, renowned for its stunning islands, marine life, rich culture, and heritage.
He praised the unique Fijian essence present in every film by Vimal Reddy, highlighting the strong social messages that resonate with local audiences and challenge societal barriers.
“Films articulate a universal language,” Professor Prasad explained. “They connect people across various cultures, backgrounds, ages, and economic statuses. As a leading form of contemporary art, movies break down barriers among individuals and emphasize shared values and emotions, serving as a powerful storytelling medium.”
The Deputy Prime Minister also expressed gratitude to the director, producer, and the entire cast and crew for their dedication and hard work in realizing this vision.
