The Fiji Development Bank (FDB) recently participated in a collaborative business workshop organized by Film Fiji and the Ministry of Trade, Co-operatives, Small and Medium Enterprises, and Communications (MCTTT). The event, which took place at Corner Café in Nadi, gathered 30 participants from the local film industry, aiming to empower them to explore small business opportunities that could drive economic growth in the sector.

Representatives of FDB, including Nadi branch members Mohammed Jaffar and Nilishma Sharma, highlighted various entrepreneurial loan offerings such as the Loan for Women Entrepreneurs and the Small and Medium Enterprise Sustainability Package. They emphasized the critical role of financial literacy as a key skill for achieving success in business.

MCTTT officials presented the Integrated Human Resource Development Programme (IHRDP), which garnered significant interest among the attendees. This initiative collaborates with financial institutions like FDB to provide thorough support to entrepreneurs, thereby enhancing their business capabilities.

Filimone Waqabaca, CEO of FDB, stressed the importance of the partnership, noting that it seeks to deliver access, exposure, and resources to emerging talents in the industry. “We’ve been working with the Ministry of Trade on this program for a while and have assisted many entrepreneurs in fulfilling their business dreams. Collaborating with Film Fiji, which plays a crucial role in showcasing our cultural identity globally, makes this partnership particularly meaningful for FDB,” he stated.

This initiative aligns with FDB’s commitment to support small artisans and contribute to the growth of Fiji’s cultural industry. By facilitating the expansion of local entrepreneurs into new markets, FDB aims to fortify Fiji’s economic landscape, nurturing a hopeful vision for the future of the country’s creative sectors.

On a broader scale, the support reflected in this event demonstrates a dedication to uplifting local economies and fostering a vibrant culture of entrepreneurship in Fiji, highlighting the potential for growth when institutions unite for a common purpose.
