Fiji’s Film Industry Finds New Horizons in National Development Plan

The Audio-Visual and Film industry is a key focus in Fiji’s new National Development Plan. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Hon. Professor Biman Prasad, made this announcement during the premiere of the locally produced film “Langha Phobia,” which explores the themes of trust and respect in marriage, at Life Cinema in Nakasi.

Professor Prasad emphasized the significant growth potential of Fiji’s Audio-Visual and Film industry, noting its increasing importance on the global stage. He highlighted that Fiji is becoming a sought-after location for film production, thanks to its stunning islands, rich marine life, and vibrant culture.

A core priority for the Coalition Government is to nurture local talent through education and training initiatives. The government has been actively supporting local universities to enhance talent development in the arts and skills through various programs and courses.

“The new National Development Plan is ‘The People’s Plan’ as it reflects the aspirations and needs of our citizens, aiming to improve their socio-economic well-being,” stated Professor Prasad.

He reiterated the importance of creating a supportive environment for Fiji filmmakers, as it would foster the development of local talent and advance the film industry. “Films speak a universal language, connecting individuals across different cultures, nationalities, ages, and socio-economic backgrounds,” he noted.

Professor Prasad praised the director, producer, and the entire cast and crew for their dedication and hard work in realizing the film’s vision. He recognized that each movie by Mr. Vimal Reddy incorporates an authentic Fijian essence and delivers powerful social messages that resonate deeply with the local audience and culture, while also addressing societal barriers.
