The Deputy Prime Minister of Fiji, Manoa Kamikamica, emphasized the significant role of the audio visual industry in enhancing various sectors such as hospitality and transportation during the Film Fiji Industry Connect event in Suva. He highlighted that Film Fiji has made substantial contributions to the country’s economy, citing that last year, international films, television shows, and documentaries from 11 different nations generated nearly $260 million in economic activity.
Kamikamica noted the positive outcomes of these productions, which resulted in job creation for almost 1,300 Fijians and engaged 282 local service providers. The government aims to attract more international productions, similar to the popular show Love Island, while simultaneously nurturing the talent of local filmmakers.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting the growth of the audio visual sector by improving the work permit process in collaboration with the Immigration Department.
