Walker’s central objective during the final days of preparation is to help the players meet their full potential.
He is concentrating on refining the team’s defensive strategies, underscoring the importance of mastering the basics in that area. “Things I have been incorporating with the squad are just some basics and detail on the defense side, trying to get them to make sure we cover all areas on the ruck, just because the ruck area is where we have most turnovers in 7s,” Walker stated. This strategic focus highlights a methodical approach to giving his team a competitive advantage on the field.
Having previously coached the USA Women’s 7s team, Walker views Fiji as one of the leading attacking nations globally. He comments on the players’ instinctive abilities, which enable them to effectively utilize the width of the pitch, paving the way for creative attacking plays.
The Fijiana will begin their tournament against Ireland at 4:25 PM Friday, followed by a match against France at 7:35 PM. Meanwhile, the men’s team will commence their Hong Kong campaign against the USA at 4:48 PM, subsequently facing Ireland at 7:58 PM.
