A recent cooperative operation involving the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS), the Fiji Police Force, and the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) has led to the successful identification and disruption of a range of illegal activities.

In a unified announcement, the FRCS emphasized the significance of resource sharing and the exchange of information among agencies to achieve their enforcement goals. This operation took place at the Mua-i-Walu port and adjacent carrier stands, where authorities discovered high-value dutiable goods cleverly hidden in used water bottles.

This revelation of sophisticated smuggling techniques reflects the adaptability of offenders and certain shopkeepers who attempt to bypass customs regulations. In addition, undeclared cigarettes were found on a fishing vessel, revealing potential violations in trade laws involving both shop owners and maritime operators.

The discoveries from the coordinated raids underscore the urgent need to protect Fiji’s supply chains from illicit practices. The FRCS, along with its partners, remains committed to dismantling these networks and ensuring obedience to legal requirements.

FRCS Chief Executive, Udit Singh, underscored the importance of these operations in exposing and addressing illegal activities that undermine law enforcement efforts. He affirmed the agency’s dedication to collaboration with its partners to hold those engaged in unlawful trade accountable.

As the festive season approaches, the FRCS is calling upon community members to stay alert and report any suspicious activities. Businesses are encouraged to adhere strictly to legal norms, ensuring that all goods traded comply with regulatory standards.

This operation represents a robust effort to maintain law and order in Fiji and highlights the effectiveness of collaborative governance in combating illegal trade. By fostering a culture of vigilance and compliance, Fiji can continue to protect its markets and communities during a time of increased economic activity.
