Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH) in Nadi has introduced Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) services, aimed at treating chronic wounds, burns, decompression sickness, and diabetic foot ulcers. The facility was inaugurated by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Strategic Planning, National Development & Statistics, Prof. Prasad.

The Hyperbaric Chamber is anticipated to enhance recovery rates and significantly diminish the necessity for amputations related to diabetes. Prof. Prasad highlighted the alarming statistic that one amputation occurs every 12 hours in Fiji due to non-communicable diseases, particularly diabetes, which is a leading cause of premature death in the country.

“The launch of HBOT marks a significant advancement in our efforts to improve health outcomes and reduce amputation rates,” stated Prof. Prasad. He emphasized that this initiative demonstrates Fiji’s commitment to upgrading its healthcare infrastructure.

Moreover, the introduction of the Hyperbaric Chamber aims not only to improve local health outcomes but also to create opportunities for collaborations with regional healthcare providers and attract medical tourism. This positions Fiji as a potential hub for advanced medical services.

This initiative reflects a hopeful trend in enhancing healthcare accessibility and quality in Fiji, paving the way for better health outcomes for its citizens. There is a positive outlook as the addition of state-of-the-art services like HBOT can lead to improved patient care and reduced healthcare burdens on the system.

In summary, the launch of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy at Pacific Specialist Healthcare signifies a pivotal development in Fiji’s healthcare landscape, striving to decrease alarming amputation rates and providing advanced medical services.
