The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) reported a total of 29 complaints in January 2025, as outlined in their latest data release. Out of these complaints, 18 were determined to be non-corruption-related and redirected to the appropriate authorities. Meanwhile, 10 complaints were categorized as corruption-related and will be recommended for further investigation. Currently, one complaint is still under legal assessment.

When comparing this data to January 2024, there were fewer complaints last year, with a total of 25 received, of which 15 were classified as corruption-related. Notably, in January 2025, FICAC did not commence any legal actions. Additionally, a case against two individuals was dropped due to the inability of a key witness to recall vital evidence.

In a proactive approach to combating corruption, FICAC’s Corruption Prevention Department took significant steps by holding four training sessions, which successfully engaged 90 participants from public sector institutions, youth groups, and educational authorities. Such initiatives underscore FICAC’s commitment to fostering a culture of integrity and transparency within the community.

Overall, while the number of complaints has increased, the focus on training and education demonstrates a positive commitment toward preventing corruption in Fiji. This ongoing effort illustrates that addressing corruption is multifaceted, including both enforcement and community engagement.
