The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) has taken significant steps to enhance its strategic initiatives aimed at combating corruption, with an emphasis on public education and awareness. FICAC Commissioner Barbara Malimali highlighted the importance of empowering citizens to identify and report corrupt practices, thereby fostering a culture rooted in integrity and accountability.

Moreover, the agency has strengthened its collaboration with government entities, civil society organizations, and international partners to intensify their unified efforts in the battle against corruption. Malimali acknowledged that FICAC encountered considerable criticism last year, which led to doubts about their processes and subjected their dedicated staff to online harassment.

Despite these challenges, Malimali affirmed their unwavering commitment to their mandate, stating, “We have remained steadfast, our compass fixed on the true cause of our mandate.” She expressed a hopeful outlook, assuring that despite the turbulent environment, they are focused on their mission to eradicate corruption and uphold ethical governance.

FICAC has continued to deploy its dedicated officers to investigate and prosecute corrupt activities, sending a clear message that such misconduct will not be tolerated. As the agency looks towards 2025, it remains determined to create a corruption-free Fiji by investing in its workforce, leveraging technology, and refining its strategies to tackle emerging challenges.

Malimali urged all citizens to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities. She expressed gratitude for the continued support from the Fijian people, emphasizing that together, they can build a brighter, corruption-free future characterized by good governance.

This proactive approach by FICAC signals a commitment not only to accountability but also to fostering a more transparent society. As they continue to work collaboratively with various stakeholders, the hope for an improved, corruption-free Fiji grows stronger.
