During the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka met with the Fijian diaspora in Samoa. He expressed gratitude to the Fijian community and emphasized the urgent need to tackle climate change, especially for Pacific Islands that could be submerged, with specific mention of Tuvalu.

Rabuka underscored the importance of participating in events like the Conference of the Parties (COP), which plays a crucial role in addressing the effects of climate change and providing a platform for affected nations to seek international assistance. He also reflected on the Earth Summit in Rio in 1992, which marked the inception of the COP.

The Fijian leader highlighted the need for collaborative efforts and the importance of maintaining positive relationships in combating climate change challenges.
