In light of this concerning information and a recent incident of violence against young children that circulated widely on social media, Sashi Kiran, the Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection, emphasized the vital need for education and awareness regarding effective parenting techniques. She particularly noted that younger parents, who may lack the support of extended families, can benefit from resources aimed at fostering healthy parenting practices.
The Ministry is committed to raising awareness and educating the public about what constitutes violence against children and the ways to prevent it. Kiran firmly stated that every child in Fiji deserves to grow up in a nurturing environment, free from fear or harm. In response to the broader issue of child violence, the Ministry is enhancing its reporting mechanisms and encourages the public to report cases of abuse through the 24-hour child helpline at 1325, assuring confidentiality and a swift response to protect victims and pursue justice against offenders.
