The FIJI Water Flying Fijians mounted an impressive comeback in the second half to secure a 33-19 victory over Spain during their third match in the Autumn Nations Series.

Spain began the match strong, leading 10-7 at halftime thanks to a penalty try and a penalty kick from flyhalf Gonzalo Lopez. Fiji’s Ponipate Loganimasi scored the team’s sole try in the first half, which was converted by Caleb Muntz.

In the second half, Lopez further extended Spain’s lead with three penalty kicks, placing Fiji behind 19-7. However, the tide turned in the 54th minute when Sireli Maqala responded for Fiji, igniting a revival. Following this, hooker Sam Matavesi added another try in the 59th minute, with Captain Waisea Nayacalevu following suit just four minutes later.

Debutant Setareki Turagacoke capped off the scoring for Fiji with a touchdown in the 69th minute, while Muntz successfully converted three tries, solidifying the victory for his team.

Looking ahead, the Mick Byrne coached team will shift their focus to their final test match of the season, which will see them take on Ireland at Aviva Stadium next Sunday at 3:10 AM. This upcoming challenge presents an opportunity for the Flying Fijians to build on their recent success and finish the season on a high note.
