The FIJI Water Flying Fijians demonstrated resilience and skill in their latest match, overcoming Spain with a score of 33-19 in the Autumn Nations Series on Sunday morning. The hosts established an early lead, finishing the first half at 10-7. Spain’s success during the opening half was marked by a penalty try and contributions from flyhalf Gonzalo Lopez, who kicked a penalty, while Fiji’s winger Ponipate Loganimasi scored a try, followed by a successful conversion from Caleb Muntz.

As the second half began, Spain extended their lead with three penalties by Lopez, bringing the score to 19-7. However, the Fijian team adjusted their strategy and began their comeback in the 54th minute with a try from Sireli Maqala. The momentum shifted as hooker Sam Matavesi added another try just five minutes later, followed closely by a score from Captain Waisea Nayacalevu.

The scoring spree culminated in the 69th minute with a try from debutant Setareki Turagacoke, and Muntz contributed significantly with three successful conversions throughout the match. Looking ahead, the Mick Byrne-coached team will prepare for their final match of the season against Ireland, scheduled for next Sunday at 3:10 am at Aviva Stadium.

In summary, the Flying Fijians exhibited remarkable teamwork and determination, especially in the second half, which bodes well for their upcoming challenge against a formidable Irish team. This experience not only strengthens their skills but also fosters camaraderie within the squad, setting an optimistic tone for future endeavors.
