A new Commissioner for the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) is set to take office this afternoon. Acting Deputy Commissioner Francis Puleiwai confirmed this development to Fiji One News. She mentioned that she has been informed about the change, but the specifics regarding the new Commissioner’s identity and responsibilities have not yet been officially revealed.
According to section 5(1) of the FICAC Act 2007, the Commissioner is appointed by the President based on the recommendation of the Judicial Services Commission, which must consult with the Attorney-General beforehand.
In a related matter, FICAC also reported that a raid was conducted at the Election Commission yesterday, during which documents pertinent to an investigation involving Chairperson Barbara Malimali were confiscated. Malimali is currently facing allegations of abuse of office.
