A new Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption is set to take office this afternoon. Francis Puleiwai, the Acting Deputy Commissioner of FICAC, confirmed this update to Fiji One News. She noted that while she has been informed about the transition, the specifics regarding the new Commissioner’s identity and responsibilities have not yet been officially revealed.
In accordance with section 5(1) of the FICAC Act 2007, the Commissioner is appointed by the President based on a recommendation from the Judicial Services Commission, after consulting with the Attorney-General.
Additionally, FICAC reported that a raid was conducted at the Election Commission yesterday, leading to the seizure of documents related to an investigation involving Chairperson Barbara Malimali, who is facing accusations of abuse of office.
