Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced that he will soon submit a letter to the President for approval regarding the Commission of Inquiry into the appointment of Barbara Malimali as the Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption (FICAC).
Mr. Rabuka previously mentioned that determining the scope and specific mandate of this inquiry falls under his authority. Malimali’s appointment as FICAC Commissioner on September 4 has sparked controversy, particularly since she is currently under investigation by the very agency she leads.
“We are just waiting for the President to respond; I will have him sign the approval,” Mr. Rabuka stated. “I have provided my letter for his consideration when he returns.”
The inquiry’s agenda will focus on assessing the controversies involving the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption, which includes the appointment of Barbara Malimali, allegations of ministerial interference, and accusations of scapegoating related to ministerial charges.
