The Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection has partnered with the Fiji Police Force to conduct random sweeps in urban areas to tackle the rising number of beggars and children seen on the streets, especially during the festive season. These operations, which commenced two weeks ago, are set to continue throughout the holidays.

As part of these efforts, families discovered begging with children have received food rations and been safely returned to their homes. Additionally, a senior citizen found living on the streets has been provided with care and accommodation at the Golden Age Home.

The Ministry emphasized the importance of parental responsibility, urging parents and guardians to ensure their children are secure and supervised during the school break. Children found unaccompanied in public areas will be taken to a secure location, while parents or guardians will receive counseling regarding their duty of care.

Maintaining the safety and well-being of children and vulnerable individuals remains a priority for the government, which is committed to fostering a secure community environment during the festive season. The Ministry urges the public to collaborate in safeguarding children, the elderly, women, and girls, reinforcing the spirit of care and responsibility within the community.
