Pranil Singh has stepped into the role of Acting Chief Executive Officer at the Fiji Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC), following the departure of Joel Abraham, who has resigned from the position. Singh, who previously held the title of General Manager of Regulations, will serve in this capacity until the board selects a permanent successor.

In his announcement regarding Singh’s appointment, Board Chairman Cecil Browne expressed deep appreciation for Abraham’s exceptional leadership and the significant advancements made during his time at the FCCC. Browne noted that Abraham’s tenure saw considerable progress in the areas of consumer protection and market regulation, which improved the overall climate for fair competition and business practices in Fiji.

Browne stated, “We sincerely thank him for his service and wish him the very best in his future endeavors,” emphasizing Abraham’s transformative influence on the effectiveness of the commission.

During this transition, the FCCC remains wholeheartedly committed to its essential mission of safeguarding consumer rights and ensuring a well-regulated market. The change in leadership is viewed as a chance for the FCCC to introduce innovative ideas while continuing to build on the solid foundation established under Abraham’s guidance.

Abraham was instrumental in launching initiatives like the Pacific Islands Network of Competition, Consumer Protection, and Economic Regulators (PINCCER), which aimed to enhance regulatory collaboration throughout the Pacific. Singh’s leadership is anticipated to drive forward the FCCC’s goals while navigating the changing regulatory landscape, positioning the commission to continue effectively advocating for consumer rights.

This leadership transition not only presents positive opportunities for the FCCC but also inspires hope for consumers in Fiji, as the organization seeks to further improve its regulatory practices and consumer advocacy efforts. The prospects for enhancing its services under Singh’s interim leadership are encouraging, signaling a commitment to ongoing development and consumer protection in the region.
