Today, the Fijian Broadcasting Corporation (FBC) celebrates its 71st anniversary, marking a significant milestone in its evolution as a prominent media entity in Fiji. Chief Financial Officer Vimlesh Sagar highlighted the organization’s journey from limited resources and manpower to becoming a self-sustaining institution. He emphasized the importance of maintaining this commitment as FBC moves forward.

Board Chair Isoa Kaloumaira expressed appreciation for the extensive transformations the Corporation has undergone over the years. In a reflection on adaptability in the digital age, he urged future leadership to ensure the organization remains operationally sound and continues to evolve with the changing media landscape.

Kaloumaira thanked the audience for their continued support as FBC focuses on enhancing digital engagement and delivering trustworthy content to Fijian and Pacific Island communities. The emphasis on digital growth aligns with FBC’s recent efforts to expand its reach, including a new broadcast hub set to launch in Labasa, designed to significantly improve connectivity for communities in the Northern Division of Fiji.

This expansion not only provides a platform for local voices but also demonstrates a broader commitment to inclusivity in public broadcasting, as the government has begun to promote diversity among media outlets. The celebration of FBC’s anniversary serves as a hopeful reminder of the vital role media plays in uniting and uplifting communities through reliable communication and representation.
