Fiji’s FAME Awards 2025 to Spotlight Journalists and Media Freedom

Journalists in Fiji are preparing for the prestigious Fiji Achievement in Media Excellence (FAME) Awards 2025, scheduled for Saturday, December 6, 2025, at the Novotel Lami Convention & Entertainment Centre. This year’s event celebrates the resilience of media professionals while reinforcing the importance of media freedom, recognizing those who continuously amplify stories vital to the nation’s narrative.

A remarkable total of 121 entries have been submitted by journalists and newsrooms spanning print, radio, television, and digital platforms. The awards feature 25 categories that aim to honor journalistic excellence and creativity, with fiercely competitive categories such as Best Feature Article (Print), Best Sports Journalism, and Scoop of the Year, among others.

Shane Hussein, Chairman of the FAME Awards, expressed pride in the strong turnout, noting that it reflects a heightened standard of professionalism within Fiji’s media landscape. He emphasized the collaborative efforts between the Fijian Media Association and the Fiji Media Council in organizing what has become a major event in the Fijian media calendar. “Our judges will have a delightfully challenging task in selecting the finalists and winners, given the caliber of the submissions,” he remarked.

Judging for the awards is currently underway, with finalists expected to be announced soon. All shortlisted nominees will receive invitations to the awards night, along with digital badges celebrating their accomplishments. Among various honors, the event will also determine the Radio, Print, and TV Journalists of the Year, who will compete for the esteemed title of Journalist of the Year.

This edition of the FAME Awards will also see the reintroduction of the Fiji Media Hall of Fame, highlighting five media legends for their lifetime contributions to the industry. The resurgence of the FAME Awards is particularly significant, marking a hopeful turn towards greater media freedom and recognition of journalistic quality in Fiji, following years of stringent censorship laws.

Businesses and sponsors are encouraged to seize the remaining opportunities to support the event, which promises to be one of Suva’s most highly anticipated celebrations of media achievements. As the media landscape continues to evolve, the FAME Awards serve as a beacon of hope and recognition, inspiring journalists to pursue excellence in their craft and contribute to society.
