Fiji’s Minister for Policing, Iowane Naivalurua, announced that the Fiji Police Force is collaborating with inter-religious leaders to develop tailored security plans for places of worship. This initiative comes in the wake of security issues, particularly the recent desecration at the Samabula Shiv mandir.

In Parliament, Minister Naivalurua emphasized the proactive measures being taken to bolster protection for all religious sites across the country. The Fiji Police Force is working on joint security protocols, public awareness campaigns, and fostering community commitment to safeguarding sacred spaces.

Following the recent sacrilege incident, police have advised the management of the involved Hindu temple to reassess their internal security measures. The initiative aims to create security committees within various faith communities, utilizing a pilot plan template that can be adapted by other religious organizations.

Mr. Naivalurua stated, “We are sending a clear and firm message: sacred spaces across all faiths must be protected.” Police patrols have been intensified around key religious sites, and heightened visibility is expected during upcoming religious festivals, contributing to a larger effort to ensure community safety.

This collaborative approach echoes sentiments expressed in previous discussions about the escalating sacrilege incidents in Fiji. The police have determined that these acts are not politically motivated, but rather fueled by internal discord among various groups, suggesting that community integration and dialogue are essential for fostering understanding and cooperation.

Community leaders are hopeful that these recent challenges can spark constructive conversations about respect for diverse faiths and the importance of lawful responses to such crimes. Authorities are committed to enhancing the security of religious sites, emphasizing that unity among community members is crucial for fostering a safer environment for all.

In light of these events, there is a shared belief that these efforts can lead to stronger community ties and a collective resolution to protect the sanctity of all worship spaces in Fiji.
