The McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast Sevens aims to enhance the tournament experience each year. Tournament committee chairman Jay Whyte emphasized that this local event provides an opportunity for fans to witness high-quality international sevens rugby on home soil without the cost typically associated with the HSBC Sevens World Series.

“We really want to see the quality of the competition rise each year,” Whyte stated, highlighting the importance of spectator enjoyment as well as the experience for special guests who come to share their passion for the sport.

A new feature this year is a fan zone area, where attendees can take photographs and obtain autographs from notable figures in rugby. The fan zone will also offer a variety of eateries and kiosks for added convenience and enjoyment.

“This initiative is all about raising the bar with new elements introduced each year,” Whyte said, mentioning that Rasta Rasivhenge will handle social media communications, ensuring a broader reach for the tournament’s excitement.

The event will also feature an esteemed international commentary team, including Shaun Maloney, Karl Tenana, Greg Clark, Rikki Swannell, Alicia Quirk, Nemani Nadolo, Lote Tuqiri, and legendary Waisale Serevi.

Whyte encouraged rugby fans throughout the country to attend in large numbers, inviting them to experience this significant international sevens event held at Lawaqa Park next week. He noted, “We’re bringing an international sevens event to our backyard and it doesn’t take much to jump in the car or bus and witness who will be crowned champions.” This year has the potential for thrilling matchups, particularly between New Zealand and Fiji, promising an exhilarating atmosphere for all attendees.

The annual tournament not only fosters a spirit of community and pride but also continues to build a legacy of exciting rugby in Fiji. With each edition, it brings together rugby enthusiasts and enhances the local sports culture, making it a highly anticipated event on the calendar.
