Prince Charles Park is set to host the George ‘Fiji’ Veikoso Homecoming Concert next month. Saliceni Raiwalui, the special administrator of Nadi Town Council, confirmed that final preparations for the park are in progress.
Mr. Raiwalui stated that the concert would usher in a new trend for events in Nadi, noting, “This show will bring a different taste, the sound of the Pacific carrying the spirit of Fiji.” He expressed pride that Nadi will host the concert, mentioning that while the organizers will cover all costs associated with the venue, the council will manage parking arrangements and plans to utilize Koroivolu Park for additional space.
He assured that the council is eager to collaborate with musicians for future events, indicating a potential for the concert to become an annual occurrence.
The concert marks the return of Mr. Veikoso after 40 years of promoting Pacific music globally. He emphasized that this homecoming is more than just a performance. “It’s a celebration of our roots, our culture, and the music that connects us all. For four decades, I have had the privilege of carrying the spirit of Fiji and the Pacific to audiences across the globe,” said Mr. Veikoso. He expressed his honor in returning home to share music that has been central to his life, accompanied by renowned artists like J Boog, Maoli, and Josh Tatofi.
Mr. Veikoso highlighted the significance of the event as a celebration not just of his return, but also of the unifying power of music. He eagerly anticipates the memorable night with the community, stating, “This event is a tribute to our shared heritage.”
A spokesperson from Tourism Fiji expressed excitement about the concert, noting its importance in showcasing Fiji’s musical talent and its potential to stimulate the local economy while fostering a sense of community. “This event helps highlight our rich culture and warm hospitality,” he remarked.
Tickets for the concert are priced at $79, $99, $350, and $999 for VIP access. Local artist and aviator Big Wilz shared his enthusiasm, expressing willingness to pay for the chance to see Pojie, Josh, and Maoli perform. He also praised Mr. Veikoso as a significant figure in the music industry and encouraged attendance, stating, “It’s going to be epic. Be there if you can, just don’t feel bad if you can’t. See you in Nadi.”
The concert is scheduled for September 14-15.
