The FIJI Water Flying Fijians showcased a remarkable second-half performance to secure a 33-19 victory over Spain in their third match of the Autumn Nations Series.
The match began with the hosts demonstrating strong play, taking a slim lead of 10-7 into halftime. Spain’s scoring came through a penalty try and a kick from flyhalf Gonzalo Lopez, while Fiji’s response included a try from winger Ponipate Loganimasi, successfully converted by Caleb Muntz.
As the second half unfolded, Lopez added three additional penalties to give Spain a 19-7 advantage. However, the Flying Fijians regrouped, igniting their comeback in the 54th minute when Sireli Maqala crossed the try line. Hooker Sam Matavesi followed suit in the 59th minute, with Captain Waisea Nayacalevu scoring Fiji’s third try just four minutes later. Debutant Setareki Turagacoke capped off the scoring for Fiji with a try in the 69th minute, and Muntz successfully converted three tries overall.
Next on the agenda for the Mick Byrne-coached team will be their final test match of the season, where they are set to face Ireland at Aviva Stadium next Sunday at 3:10 AM.
