Fiji’s Employment Bill Takes Shape: What to Expect Ahead

A joint press release issued yesterday by the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation (FCEF) and the Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association (FHTA) announced progress in the drafting of the Employment Relations Bill.

Minister for Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations, Agni Deo Singh, met with the FCEF to address concerns recently raised by the media.

The talks focused on advancing input for the draft Employment Relations Act (ERA) amendments with a defined timeline for tripartite discussions to begin next week.

Employer representatives expressed eagerness to participate in the process, with all parties expected to engage in good faith to meet the proposed deadlines for presenting the draft to the Solicitor General’s Office, followed by the Government’s Development Subcommittee, and subsequently to Cabinet and Parliament, as outlined in discussions with the Ministry.

The proposed Bill will undergo further scrutiny and public consultations through the relevant Parliamentary Standing Committee.
