The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) is progressing well with the repair project at Rakiraki Ellington Wharf, which is now 54 percent complete. All essential piling works have been successfully completed, marking a significant milestone, while the installation of precast slabs is also well underway at 70 percent completion. This phase is critical as it forms the foundation for the new wharf structure.

Despite encountering challenges related to unfavorable site conditions during the piling installation, the FRA has maintained consistent progress. The project’s next steps will include backfilling works, constructing the concrete deck slab, and completing various ancillary tasks. Ultimately, the installation of the wharf deck will restore the facility to full operational status, enhancing maritime access for the Western Division to Vanua Levu.

Minister for Public Works Ro Filipe Tuisawau praised the authority for its efforts, noting that the completion of this project will significantly ease transportation in the region. This initiative is part of broader governmental efforts to enhance and rehabilitate vital maritime infrastructure across Fiji, promising not only immediate usability improvements but also long-term community benefits.

The maintenance and enhancement of essential infrastructure like the Ellington Wharf not only ensure safer maritime operations but also underscore the commitment to sustainable development in Fiji. Such projects reflect the government’s proactive approach to investing in infrastructure, which is crucial for economic growth and community resilience.
