Fiji’s Electoral Commission Chair Resigns: What’s Next?

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced the resignation of Barbara Malimali from her position as Chair of the Electoral Commission (EC). Rabuka, in his capacity as Chair of the Constitutional Offices Commission (COC), received an email regarding the resignation from the Solicitor-General, who acts as the COC Secretariat, at 8:17 AM on Saturday, September 14th. This announcement follows a recent newspaper report about Malimali’s departure. The Prime Minister noted that she has been appointed as the new Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC).
