Fiji National University (FNU) currently has 53 percent of all students receiving funding through the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS). Education Minister Aseri Radrodro reported to Parliament that there are a total of 15,666 students being supported by TSLS in 2024.
Among these, 8,333 students are enrolled at FNU, while 4,280 study at the University of the South Pacific. The University of Fiji has 902 TSLS students, the Sangam Institute of Technology has 319, Fulton College has 142, and Corpus Christi Teachers College has 100 students receiving funding.
Mr. Radrodro noted that TSLS allocated $56 million to various tertiary institutions in the 2022-2023 financial year and increased this to $62 million in the 2023-2024 financial year. FNU received $30.7 million from TSLS for the current year, with the University of the South Pacific getting $13.1 million, the University of Fiji $6.6 million, and the Sangam Institute of Nursing $1.9 million.
He emphasized that TSLS is continuously enhancing its policies to ensure transparent and efficient management of taxpayer funds related to scholarships and study loans. In 2023, TSLS funded 13,860 students through scholarships and loan schemes, which has now increased to 15,666 students in 2024.
