The Ministry of Education, led by Minister Aseri Radrodro, has announced the payment schedule for qualification upgrades benefiting 395 teachers in Fiji. The payments will be distributed in two parts: 50 percent will be issued before Christmas, with the remaining funds paid in January.
During the Fiji Teachers Registration Authority (FTRA) and Ministry of Education Annual Congress 2024 at the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa, Mr. Radrodro reaffirmed the government’s dedication to supporting educators. He emphasized the theme of the congress, “Transforming Education: Closing Gaps, Connecting Minds, Shaping Tomorrow,” which underlines the ministry’s commitment to ensuring teachers receive their entitled benefits this year.
In addition to the payments for qualification upgrades, Mr. Radrodro stated that teachers would also receive location allowances, step-ups, and regularization of posts. Specifically, 103 assistant principals will be granted a step-up to set them apart from heads of departments.
These incentives are designed to acknowledge the hard work of teachers in Fiji and to help retain their expertise, which is vital for the continued development of the education sector and the progress of students. The Minister lauded the tireless efforts of school heads, reminding them of the far-reaching impact their work has on the community.
As discussions at the congress progressed, Mr. Radrodro encouraged collaboration among educators, stating the importance of engaging in meaningful dialogue, sharing best practices, and working together to enhance the educational experiences of students. He expressed optimism that the congress would promote unity among educators, preparing them to meet future challenges.
By coming together to share insights and strategies, the education community can foster a robust and innovative environment that drives positive change in education.
This initiative not only highlights the importance of investing in education but also represents a significant step towards creating a more collaborative and supportive ecosystem for teachers in Fiji. The commitment from the government serves as a hopeful sign for the future of education and the welfare of educators in the region.
