The Ministry of Education in Fiji is set to bring back interviews for eligible Year 13 students interested in enrolling in teacher training institutions across the country’s four divisions. This initiative is designed to enhance the recruitment of passionate individuals who aspire to join the teaching profession.

Minister of Education Aseri Radrodro expressed enthusiasm about this initiative, stating that it presents a valuable opportunity for those who have completed Year 13 to significantly influence the future of education in Fiji. With a growing demand for qualified teachers, Radrodro emphasized the importance of ensuring that teacher training programs are rigorous and attractive to the right candidates.

This program stems from the 2024-2033 Denarau Declaration, which aims to strengthen the partnership between teacher training institutions (TTIs) and various educational stakeholders, ensuring that graduates possess the essential knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for success in the classroom. The reintroduction of interviews aims to recruit dedicated educators who are genuinely committed to positively impacting students’ lives across diverse contexts.

The Ministry is prioritizing certain teaching areas that are currently facing shortages, including Primary Education, Special & Inclusive Education, and various subject specializations like Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Computer Science.

The closing date for online applications to the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS) has been set for January 31, 2025. The available scholarship programs focus on various educational degrees such as Bachelor of Education in Secondary and Primary Education, among others.

TTIs will conduct two rounds of interviews for applicants. Eligible students will be informed of their interview dates and locations via email and phone notifications.

This initiative not only highlights the proactive measures being taken to enhance the quality of education in Fiji but also reflects a commitment to nurturing a new generation of educators who will inspire and empower future learners.

In summary, the Ministry of Education’s initiative to reintroduce interviews for prospective teacher trainees underscores the importance of qualified teachers in shaping a bright educational future for Fiji. By carefully selecting passionate educators, the program aims to foster a robust and impactful educational environment.
