The Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, announced that payments for qualification upgrades for 395 teachers will be divided into two parts: 50 percent will be disbursed before Christmas, with the remainder provided in January. This announcement was made during the Fiji Teachers Registration Authority (FTRA) and Ministry of Education Annual Congress 2024, held at the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa in Denarau.
Radrodro emphasized the government’s dedication to supporting educators, underlining the theme of the congress: “Transforming Education: Closing Gaps, Connecting Minds, Shaping Tomorrow.” He reiterated that teachers will receive various benefits this year, including location allowances, step-ups, and regularization of posts.
Additionally, Radrodro announced that 103 assistant principals would receive step-ups to distinguish their roles from heads of departments. He stressed that these incentives are vital for acknowledging the hard work of teachers in Fiji and for retaining their professional skills, which are essential for the development of the educational sector and the learning capabilities of students.
The Minister praised the efforts of school leaders, stating that their impact extends well beyond the classrooms. He urged educational leaders to engage in meaningful dialogue and share best practices to elevate the teaching profession and enhance students’ educational experiences.
Expressing hope for the congress, Radrodro called for unity among educators to prepare students for future challenges. He highlighted that by sharing knowledge and experiences, educators could form a strong community that fosters educational advancements.
This initiative reflects a significant positive step towards enhancing the educational framework in Fiji, showing a proactive approach in recognizing and rewarding the efforts of teachers. The government’s commitment and encouragement for collaboration among educators may lead to improved outcomes for students and a brighter future for the educational landscape in Fiji.
