Aseri Radrodro, Fiji’s Minister for Education, convened with representatives from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) during the Conference for Pacific Education Ministers (CPEM) held in Port Moresby. The meeting focused on significant educational priorities and potential areas of collaboration aimed at enhancing education across Fiji.

Key discussions included the urgent need for cyclone-proof school infrastructure, the formulation of Fiji’s National Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Policy, and strategies to bolster Early Childhood Education (ECE). The ADB reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Fiji’s educational development, with an emphasis on accessible funding for targeted initiatives that can address these critical areas.

Radrodro expressed gratitude for the ADB’s partnership in promoting quality education for all Fijians, indicating that the meeting was instrumental in pinpointing collaborative efforts to tackle the nation’s pressing educational challenges. The ADB’s commitment aligns with its broader strategy to foster inclusive and sustainable educational systems throughout the Pacific, with further discussions anticipated on developing specific project proposals and refining implementation strategies.

This ongoing collaboration between the Fijian government and the ADB reflects a shared vision for improving education quality and infrastructure, thereby fostering a more robust educational framework that can withstand challenges posed by climate events and other adversities.

In light of the recent initiatives and pledges, there is a renewed optimism for the future of education in Fiji, as stakeholders work collectively to create a resilient and adaptive learning environment for all students.
