Aseri Radrodro, Fiji’s Minister for Education, met with representatives from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) during the Conference for Pacific Education Ministers (CPEM) in Port Moresby. The discussions aimed at tackling significant educational priorities and exploring ways to collaborate for the enhancement of education in Fiji.

Among the critical topics discussed were the urgent need to develop cyclone-proof school infrastructure, the creation of Fiji’s National Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Policy, and strategies to strengthen Early Childhood Education (ECE). The ADB reiterated its commitment to supporting Fiji’s educational progress, focusing on providing accessible funding for targeted initiatives to address these pressing issues.

Radrodro expressed his appreciation for the ADB’s partnership, recognizing the meeting as a vital step in identifying cooperative efforts to address the country’s educational challenges. The ADB’s support aligns with its broader mission to foster inclusive and sustainable education systems across the Pacific region, with further discussions expected on developing concrete project proposals and implementation strategies.

This collaboration between the Fijian government and the ADB signifies a shared vision for improving the quality of education and infrastructure in Fiji. By focusing on resilience against climate-related challenges, both parties aim to establish a strong educational framework capable of withstanding various adversities.

In light of these recent initiatives and pledges, there is a renewed sense of hope for the future of education in Fiji. Stakeholders are coming together to create a resilient and adaptable learning environment for all students, demonstrating a collective commitment to building a better educational landscape in the country.
