The National E-Commerce Strategy 2025-2029 aims to bolster Fiji’s economy by promoting Fijian-made products and enhancing their visibility in the global market. This ambitious five-year plan is set to empower local businesses, create jobs, boost exports, and establish Fiji as a digital trade hub in the region.

In his address at the launch event, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Manoa Kamikamica, emphasized the opportunity for Fiji to capitalize on the growth of global e-commerce. He articulated a vision where every Fijian, whether a farmer in the Highlands, a weaver in the outer islands, or a tech innovator in Suva, is equipped with the necessary tools and access to succeed in the digital economy.

Kamikamica acknowledged that while the e-commerce landscape holds significant promise, challenges remain across various sectors beyond just online transactions. To address these, the government is committed to fostering collaborations between marketplaces, delivery services, web developers, and financial service providers. The aim is to create an environment conducive to a flourishing e-commerce sector, making it a key driver of economic transformation.

This strategy aligns with previous discussions around improving digital literacy, addressing logistical challenges, and fostering a more competitive environment among local businesses, particularly as Fiji embraces an increasingly digital future. As many consumers shift towards online shopping, driven by convenience and a wider selection of products, enhancing the support systems for local entrepreneurs becomes vital.

The growth potential of e-commerce in Fiji not only reflects resilience amid challenges but also presents opportunities for innovation among local businesses. With ongoing improvements in infrastructure and digital literacy initiatives, there is a positive outlook for Fiji’s online marketplace, which could lead to enhanced economic prospects for all Fijians.
