Fiji’s Drug Crisis: Young Lives at Stake!

The Fiji Police Force is actively addressing the issue of illegal drug possession, with marijuana being the most frequently confiscated substance. Assistant Commissioner of Police, Operations, Livai Driu, pointed out that many of the arrests involve individuals in their 20s and 30s.

Since the 18th of this month, there have been eighteen reports logged across all five divisions. These reports include the findings from snap searches and house raids, alongside the uprooting of plants suspected to be marijuana from a local farm. While marijuana remains the predominant drug in these cases, there have also been isolated incidents involving methamphetamine.

ACP Driu highlighted the increasing support from the community, noting a rise in requests for police-led awareness initiatives in partnership with various organizations. He underscored the necessity of sustaining public trust by ensuring that police officers demonstrate integrity and actively contribute to combating drug issues.

The public is encouraged to report any information by calling 917 or using Crime Stoppers at 919.
