In recent law enforcement operations, a significant number of drug-related cases were documented. Out of 220 drug cases, 203 involved unlawful possession of illicit drugs, as reported by Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu. Additionally, the operations identified 15 instances of unlawful cultivation and two for unlawful importation of drugs.

Under the initiative known as Operation Sasamaki, authorities raided 15 farms, which led to the uprooting of three tons of marijuana. The areas affected by these arrests included districts such as Nakasaleka, Naceva, Yale, and Ravitaki on Kadavu, where the cultivation and possession of illicit drugs were directly addressed.

In activities within the capital, police, supported by the Fiji Detector Dog unit, executed searches on inter-island vessels, hotels, and residential homes, uncovering marijuana and methamphetamine. A specific case of proceeds of crime was also detected during these operations.

These recent actions align closely with ongoing efforts highlighted in earlier reports, where similar operations led to drug seizures and arrests throughout Fiji. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Operations, Livai Driu, noted that collaboration with the public has been vital to the successes of these raids, as citizens provided critical information that guided officers to these illegal activities.

The proactive measures being undertaken not only reflect the commitment of the Fiji Police Force to tackle drugs but also embody a wider initiative to bolster community safety. The law enforcement agencies’ emphasis on public cooperation serves as an encouraging reminder that community engagement is key to addressing and alleviating drug-related issues.

With continued vigilance and cooperation, there is hope for a future with reduced drug-related crime and a safer community for all.
