Two individuals have been apprehended in Fiji following coordinated drug raids aimed at dismantling the cultivation and trafficking of illegal substances.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Operations Livai Driu reported that the first operation occurred in the challenging terrains of Daku, Kadavu, where a 26-year-old local resident was taken into custody for allegedly growing illicit drugs. Authorities from the Central Division and the Police Mobile Force uncovered over 1,000 marijuana plants alongside loose materials and seeds during the raid. The seized items have been forwarded for analysis, and investigations are ongoing.
In a separate incident in Nakasi, police arrested another man in his twenties after discovering large bags filled with dried branches and leaves believed to be marijuana. This suspect had been under surveillance due to intelligence reports indicating his involvement in transporting drugs from a nearby maritime island in the Eastern Division. The operation resulted in the confiscation of two sizable bags of the suspected drug, which are also subject to forensic examination.
ACP Driu highlighted that these operations are part of a broader strategy to disrupt and dismantle drug networks throughout Fiji. He reaffirmed the commitment of Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu to confront the country’s drug issues head-on, aiming to reduce supply and hold offenders accountable.
“Our divisional operations are supported by specialized units with the intent to curb the illicit drug trade. We remain committed to working with our partners to ensure those involved face the full force of the law,” stated ACP Driu.
This ongoing effort reflects the determination of law enforcement agencies in Fiji to tackle drug-related crimes, emphasizing the importance of community safety and the well-being of society as a whole.
