Police morale is reportedly high following the successful seizure of over 31,000 marijuana plants in Kadavu during Operation Sasamaki, according to police announcements. This recent operation took place in the district of Ono and follows a sequence of effective police efforts aimed at disrupting illegal drug cultivation throughout Fiji.
Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu stated that investigators are actively pursuing leads to identify the owners of the marijuana farms involved. The operation has also resulted in other significant arrests, including a 19-year-old individual apprehended with nearly 4,000 plants on a farm in the tikina of Yale. Further actions have extended to inter-island vessels in Suva, where police searches resulted in additional confiscations and arrests, aided by K9 officers who detected unattended bags containing illicit substances.
Commissioner Tudravu emphasized the cohesive spirit among officers involved in these operations, reinforcing their shared commitment to combat drug-related issues for the sake of future generations. “We will not stop…as long as it’s illegal,” he stated, addressing any criticisms that have arisen regarding the ongoing operations.
