Fiji’s law enforcement agencies are ramping up efforts to dismantle drug supply chains, conducting a series of raids and arrests across its five policing divisions. Over the last week, these operations have resulted in significant drug seizures, particularly marijuana, and the apprehension of multiple suspects.
In the Western Division, police arrested a 39-year-old man from Tagitagi, Tavua, following a search of his property where marijuana plants were discovered cultivated on his farm. Similarly, in the Eastern Division, authorities unearthed another marijuana farm in Nabulini and are in the process of identifying the landowner.
Further actions in Korovou and Levuka led to arrests for possession of illegal substances. In Wailoaloa, Nadi, police apprehended a 26-year-old woman after confiscating parcels of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana from her home. Additionally, a police operation in Nasinu resulted in the arrest of four men, utilizing the assistance of a K9 officer from the Herb unit, who discovered sachets of dried leaves hidden in an old couch, as well as over $1,000 in cash.
Additional crackdown measures in both the Western and Southern Divisions have yielded further arrests, with operations bolstered by the Serious Organized Crime and Intelligence Unit, the Fiji Detector Dog Unit, and the Narcotics Bureau.
The Fiji Police Force underscores the importance of community cooperation in these initiatives, expressing appreciation for public support. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu accentuated that sharing information is vital in the fight against the drug trade and sends a strong message to those involved in illicit activities.
These ongoing police operations signify a determined stride toward combating drug-related crimes, aiming to foster a safer and healthier community. The police’s targeted efforts showcase their commitment to ensuring security and tackling the pressing issues of substance abuse effectively, prompting optimism for progress in the future.
